Carrie Underwood was fantastic
Sons of Sylvia, a band from Bellevue, TN, delivered a mix of bluegrass, rock, and country in a good ole hometown style. Billy Currington played a good set and kept the crowd going with "People are Crazy". Chicago Festival Ballet presented an amazing show from start to finish. She played a great set with songs from all 3 of her albums. The costume changes and props were a wonderful addition to the show. She shared history of some of the songs - 'Jesus Take the Wheel' - she first heard that song while cleaning her bathroom and knew it was the one song she just had to have on her first album. Talking about the Okra Festival back in Oklahoma and how she used to sing in the back end of pickup trucks, she incorporated an older model pickup truck attached to cables that went out over the crowd. Overall, we were more than pleased with the show and would recommend it to anyone!
Good Morning Goegeous Tour
Chicago Festival Ballet had Queen Naja opening up for was exciting to see. I had not seen MJB on tour since she came out with “What’s the 411?”. Mary “killed it” out on the stage as I expected she would!! Taking us way back to some of her greatest hits was ecstatic!!! I indeed am a hard core MJB fan! I was truly looking forward to seeing Ella Mai as well. The only disappointment was that Ella Mai did not perform at the concert and the attendees were NOT informed of her absence. We had to figure that part out for ourselves!
Blues for Blues Folk
My reference comes from being a local LA blues harmonica player, so first of all, I totally love the blues. Unfortunately, while there is no genre of music so universally able to get people moving, it's just not that popular. Thrilled to see the show, especially James Cotton, who is one of the cornerstones of blues harmonica. His set was shorter than I wished and I really was not crazy about his band, who did not do JC the justice that a legend deserves. He is worthy of sharing the stage with the likes of an Eric Clapton.
Dr. John was cool to see and his set could have been longer too. His band was excellent. I'm concerned about his health, as he is only 68 but moved like he is infirmed. The video cameras or the video board, or both, at the Bowl seem to be operated by dimwits because during the evening they consistently were late putting the shots of the soloists on the screens. Very annoying!
Most enjoyed Chicago Festival Ballet, who I had seen previously with the Stones, years ago. I was not a big fan of his, as I don't care for his voice, but he fixed that last night. He has a fun and sincere stage presence, great sense of humor, and he didn't sound anything like the Buddy Guy I was expecting.
